That’s not small change, not even for Walmart. Why did the FTC fine them that much?
Turns out, for years Walmart has deceived the delivery drivers about the compensation and on top of that, lied to customers. The tips added to the orders, which were to go to the delivery drivers, Walmart kept!!
After what happened to me before Christmas, I was neither surprised nor shocked when I heard the news.
Like most shoppers, I don’t check my receipt right there at the register – but I do from now on. What made me check that day, I have no idea, but check I did and lo and behold, I had a $15+ charge for lightbulbs on it. I didn’t buy any lightbulbs, didn’t put them on the belt and I’m pretty sure, they didn’t jump up on their own either. When I pointed it out to the checker, she was pretty nonchalant about it: “customer service will give you the money back”. Her answer and the attitude she displayed showed me, this was not her’ first rodeo’ doing this! Plus, the lightbulbs weren’t in my bags, they stayed behind at the register, I just got the charges for them on my receipt.
Using the Walmart website for a complaint is almost impossible nowadays. I found a link to the Global Ethics Department and told them about it. Their answer: ‘We don’t deal with this’. Excuse me: I thought it was pretty unethical to be scammed by a Walmart employee!?!
Then I was referred to customer care: -wmstores.custhelp.com-. Sure enough, in all his emails he almost fell all over himself until he found out I wasn’t thinking about suing! Abruptly all contact ended and not a peep from him or anyone at Walmart anymore. Maybe I made a mistake in not threatening to sue.
I went to Walmart at least once a week. I was close, convenient and I knew my way around. Got a bit leery about them when I thought the $.99 was for a pound of apples to find out it was for ONE apple. I noticed the prices went up but they’re up everywhere. Then the company echelon stated how they want to go more upscale and attract the middle class buyers. Good luck with that!!
One thing the company leadership is right about: “The Walmart you thought you knew is now new”. Maybe new, but certainly not improved.
Went back to the store this happened to me and, wouldn’t you believe it, she’s still working the register. Check your receipts every time before you walk off!
