Foray into Baking

Stumbled across a cake recipe that sounded good and even I can attempt, since it does involve boxed cake mix. I did try those cake mixes before but they were pretty tasteless so I dropped them in favor of bakery bought desserts. Those didn’t suit me either very well since most of them are a bit too sweet for me and I can’t stand icing!

This recipe called for a box of yellow cake mix and Orange Juice. Well, I like Orange Juice, I have it and cake mix is easy to find. Maybe because I was bored or maybe it was the time for my ‘once a year domestic endeavor’ anyway, I went for the adventure. After I got the cake mix – I had everything else already -, I mixed it all together and shoved it into the oven. The hardest part was to make, what they called syrup, but I managed that too. That syrup gets poured on the cake, after you poke a bunch of holes in it, and the cake slurps it all up.

The baking part wasn’t the thing that actually puzzled me. I was the warning: “do not eat raw dough”! How in the world are we to lick the spoon? That was the best part of Mom’s baking, wasn’t it? Was I supposed to put the spoon into the oven so the dough could cook before I lick it? This might be a case for the Nutrition Police because: I Licked the Spoon!!

When I was a kid, I did that a lot, almost every week, and with Mom’s blessing. How come I’m still alive and going strong?!?
