That’s exactly what a mother and daughter in Oklahoma did! A company offered them 26 million Dollars for their land and the women turned it down. They prefer to enjoy their land and see no need to ‘improve’ their lives. They have what they need and are at peace with what they have.
I have to admit, I’m torn between admiration and unbelievable. One part of me says ‘how great it would be to live in the lap of luxury’, the other part questions ‘would it give you peace and contentment?’.
Looking around me, I have a comfortable place to live, food on the table, decent health and, most importantly, a great family and very good friends.
Then comes the: but you could get an bigger place to live, an even bigger car, travel to all corners of the world, afford to eat in fancy restaurants, and buy your family and friends what they want.
What a conundrum!?!
While I puzzled about what I would actually do in a situation like this, my dying African Violet jumped right into my vision. What does the plant have to do with the question? Well, I thought I knew better what it needs so overfed and overwatered it. I didn’t take the time to find out what the plant wanted, instead I did what I wanted and in the process, I killed the African Violet and with it the joy it brought me.
So, who’s to say the women are wrong in their decision? I’m sure they did some talking and soul searching and in the end decided to do what is best for them and not what the know-it-all’s think is best. My African Violet would have been happier with them!
